Daily Broadside | DeSantis To Declare for Republican Presidential Race in 2024

Sorry for the radio silence over the last few days. I traveled this past weekend and didn’t have anyone to cover for me. Anybody got a spare $300k so I can take the next three years to write and build on current readership? Hit the tip jar and email me at info@daveolsson.com.

Okay, barring a miraculous $300k, we’ll just have to keep plodding along with what we can do in our off hours, right? Today you should be looking for Ron DeSantis to announce his 2024 candidacy for president of the United States during a discussion with Elon Musk on Twitter.

I’m intrigued with DeSantis. Unlike Trump, he seems to have a genuine (Catholic) Christian faith. He recently shared the stage with Franklin Graham at the International Christian Media Convention hosted by the National Religious Broadcasters in Orlando, Florida, where he said, “Make no mistake, weaponized government is one faction of society turning the reins of power against those people they don’t like. And the people that are in power now do not like people of faith.”

He’s racking up victories in Florida, including these from this report:

When Walt Disney Co (DIS.N), one of Florida’s biggest employers, opposed the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law that limited discussion of LGBTQ issues in schools, DeSantis moved to strip the company of its self-governing status.

Disney has since filed a federal lawsuit against the governor, accusing him of weaponizing state government to retaliate against the company.

When an elected Democratic state attorney said he would not prosecute anyone for defying DeSantis-backed limits on abortion, DeSantis removed him from his position.

He has made crusading against what Republicans call “woke” education policies a centerpiece of his politics while supporting conservative candidates for local school boards.

He backed a legislative measure that prohibits the teaching of “Critical Race Theory” – an academic doctrine that views U.S. history through the lens of oppression – in state public schools despite little evidence it was being taught.

Republican lawmakers in Florida handed DeSantis a bevy of conservative victories in its recent session: They expanded the state’s school voucher program, prohibited the use of public money in sustainable investing, scrapped diversity programs at public universities, allowed for permitless carry of concealed weapons and, perhaps most notably, banned almost all abortions in the state.

DeSantis declared that, “At the end of the day, we’re not going to let this state be overrun by woke ideology,” he said. “We will fight the woke in the businesses, we will fight the woke in government agencies, we will fight the woke in our schools. We will never, ever surrender to the woke agenda. Florida is the state where woke goes to die.”

Perhaps as president DeSantis could make the whole country a giant chemo bath for woke ideology.

He also seems completely unfazed by Trump’s attacks on him, using the nickname “Ron DeSanctimonious.” In fact, when asked about Trump facing arrest over payments to Stormy Daniels, DeSantis said, “Look, I don’t know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair,” a subtle shot at Trump’s alleged crime now being prosecuted by the Soros-bought prosecutor Alvin Bragg. So DeSantis can handle himself just fine when it comes to Trump.

There are some broader questions about how in debt DeSantis is with the GOPe — the establishment Republicans. Is he an independent thinker, or is he beholden to the spineless elites who merely want to hold on to the power and money they control? Rght now I don’t see it, but time will tell.

I welcome him to the race, even though our elections are now shot through with “fortifying” them — in favor of the Democrats. DeSantis is a refreshing choice in as we begin to size up the 2024 election. He seems to have Trump-sized brass without all the self-inflicted wounds that Trump’s lack of verbal discipline costs him.

Truth be told — right now, if either Trump or DeSantis were the Republican nominee, I’d vote for either one of them. Anybody but Brandon or whoever they stick in front of us.

Daily Broadside | Democrats Hate Republicans and Aren’t Afraid to Say So

Daily Verse | Ezekiel 5:5-6
“This is what the Sovereign Lord says: This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations, with countries all around her. Yet in her wickedness she has rebelled against my laws and decrees more than the nations and countries around her.”

Tuesday’s Reading: Ezekiel 7-11

Tuesday and it’s horrifying to realize that senior leaders in the Democrat party hate conservative Republicans and have minced no words in saying so. In just the last week, three different, powerful and nationally recognized Democrats have made statements that pull no punches on three consecutive days.

August 24
Charlie Crist, who won the Democrat nomination to oppose Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in November, accuses anyone who supports DeSantis for governor of having a hateful heart, and angrily declares that he does not want “your” vote.

Since the majority of people who will vote for DeSantis will be Republicans, he unequivocally labeled them all haters. That’s a helluva campaign strategy, because saying he doesn’t want their votes implies he doesn’t need their votes.

August 25
The next day at a Maryland fundraiser, Joe Biden denounced the more than 72 million Americans who voted for Donald J. Trump as semi-fascists.

Don’t forget that “MAGA” stands for “Make America Great Again.” Is wanting to make America great “extreme”? According to this despicable politician and the filthy liars who surround him, it is. It’s so extreme that it bleeds into fascism.

What do you do with fascists? You fight like hell to remove them as a threat.

August 26
Andrew Cuomo’s successor as New York governor isn’t any better than he was. The day after Brandon, the Great Unifier, scorched Trump supporters, Gov. Kathy Hochul said this at a campaign rally for Pat Ryan.

“I’m fighting to bring government back to the people, and out of the hands of dictators. And we’re here to say that the era of Trump, and Zeldin and Molinaro, just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong, okay? Get out of town, get out of town! Because you don’t represent our values. You are not New Yorkers. You’re not New Yorkers.”

Dictators? It wasn’t Republicans who shut down the country for two years, destroying businesses and education and handing out money we couldn’t afford. It wasn’t a Republican governor that sent Covid-infected patients to nursing homes from hospitals. It wasn’t Republicans who went on a rampage across the country causing $2 billion dollars of damage and killing at least 25 people over the death of Saint George Floyd, who was caught passing counterfeit money and was high on drugs at the time of his arrest.

If there’s any hateful, fascist, dictatorial enterprise in the United States, it’s the Democrats and their criminal party.

Daily Broadside | “You’re Going to be Happy” With Who’s Running in 2024

Daily Verse | Daniel 2:43
“And just as you saw the iron mixed with the baked clay, so the people will be a mixture and will not remain united, any more than iron mixes with clay.”

Happy Monday, Broadsiders! Sawgrass is not a musical genre for southern carpenters.

As I’ve written before, I voted for Donald J. Trump in 2020, although I opposed him in 2016. Since then, I’ve had mixed feelings about him, although mostly positive because of his America First policies. Like many people, I think he could use more verbal discipline but, at the same time, I admire him for his willingness to fight back against the anti-Americans spread throughout our nation — including the Deep State, the not-so-deep state like Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Bernie Sanders, Adam Schiff and the current occupant of the White House, and the national media.

Given the choice, I’d rather have Trump in office right now. Give me gas at a $1.87 and I’ll tolerate the mean tweets, rather than watching Biden shred what’s left of the constitutional order as he restores our “norms.”

Everybody is liking the return to our norms, right?

As I watch Trump in exile, it seems to me that he’s engaging in a parallel presidency. Traditionally, once a president exits office, they keep a very low profile, refrain from criticizing their successors, write their memoires and maybe engage in some kind of volunteer public service. Jimmy Carter is best known for his work with Habitat for Humanity after his one term. George W. Bush is known for his work with U.S. military veterans since leaving the White House.

Trump, as is typical with him, has defied the traditions associated with former presidents. He and his organization have released powerful videos defining how awful Joe Biden is, Trump has given interviews in which he comments on current affairs, he still holds rallies with thousands in attendance, endorses political candidates, marked 9/11 by visiting first responders and published his own videotaped remarks; offers remarks during events like Sean Feucht’s “Let Us Worship” on the National Mall yesterday; and commentated on the Evander Holyfield-Vitor Belfort novelty boxing match. Plus, Trump merchandise is still selling like crazy.

Of course, he doesn’t have the executive powers of the presidency he once held, so his role is necessarily constrained. But he’s the de facto head of the Republican Party with millions of people still supporting him and wanting to see him run again.

I don’t think it’s a secret that millions of us believe that the 2020 presidential election was illegally tampered with and that Biden was wrongfully installed in the White House. (Even if you don’t believe that, you can’t deny that Biden is the absolute worst person to occupy the Oval Office in the history of the United States. Well, you can deny it, but no reasonable person does.) It’s also no secret that Trump has been teasing his plans to run in 2024, and during his visit to the police precinct in New York City on Saturday, he probably provided the clearest hint yet that he plans to run (my emphasis):

Asked by a police officer if he plans to launch a comeback in 2024, or perhaps run for New York City mayor, Trump responded “that’s a tough question.”

But then he said “actually, for me, it’s an easy question. I mean, I know what I’m going to do, but I’m not supposed to be talking about it yet from the standpoint of campaign finance laws, which, frankly, are ridiculous.”

And the former president, as he’s said numerous times already this year of his potential campaign decision, added that “I think you’re going to be happy.”

Put that together with the ads he’s running, the appearances he’s making and the way he’s staying connected to his supporters — and I think without a doubt he’s going to run in 2024.

Is that a good thing?

On balance, I think Trump is good for our politics. He represents an old-school barroom brawler that has been lost in the political machine of today that pumps out soft men and women who sit on the collective butts and collect paychecks from taxpayers but don’t deliver more freedom and more prosperity for the nation. They, in fact, do all they can to gum up our freedoms, pay political favors to keep themselves in power, and take more of our money through taxes to enrich themselves and other nations.

I don’t relish the prospect of the Deep State going after Trump again and Nancy Pelosi siccing her rabid party on him through impeachment charades.

But one has to wonder: if it wasn’t Trump and instead was, say, Ron DeSantis — what’s to prevent the Deep State from doing the same to him? Now that the Deep State understands its power and knows it can harass and hobble a president for the entire length of his term, why wouldn’t it mess with any Republican’s presidency?

On the other hand, “F Biden” is trending on Twitter, whole stadiums of students are chanting “F*** Joe Biden,” his poll numbers are disastrous, and Democrat strategist Douglas Schoen is sounding the alarm about the 2022 midterm elections.

It doesn’t mean Trump is a shoe-in. But at this point, I’d vote for Trump if he is the candidate.

Trump needs to make better choices regarding whom he surrounds himself with if he wins the White House again, but we need someone who can fight the enemy within. Trump has proven he can and will do that.

To quote Lincoln about Grant, “I can’t spare this man. He fights!”

Daily Broadside | CBS “News” Distorts Truth to Make False Accusation

Daily Verse | 1 Kings 2:2-3
So be strong, show yourself a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.

It’s Tuesday and the media monkeys keep twisting and distorting the truth so that their preferred narrative is upheld, the latest example being a CBS News “60 Minutes” report on the Chinese Lung Pox vaccine distribution in Florida. “Reporter” Sharyn Alfonsi reported that Governor Ron DeSantis “received a $100,000 donation to his PAC from Publix grocery stores, which later partnered with the state to distribute COVID-19 vaccines.”

The obvious insinuation is that somehow Publix paid DeSantis for the right to distribute the Kung Flu vaccine.

“60 Minutes” aired a deceptively edited clip of Alfonsi confronting DeSantis at a news conference in which she accused him of a “pay-to-play” scheme and DeSantis corrected the record. The Daily Wire provided the transcript of the exchange, showing what CBS “News” kept and what it edited out.

“Transcript of the interaction between DeSantis and Alfonsi is featured below (All words appearing in bold were cut out by CBS News):”

Sharyn Alfonsi: Publix, as you know, donated $100,000 to your campaign, and then you rewarded them with the exclusive rights to distribute the vaccination in Palm Beach—

Ron DeSantis: So, first of all, that — what you’re saying is wrong. That’s—

Sharyn Alfonsi: How is that not pay-to-play?

Ron DeSantis: —that, that’s a fake narrative. So, first of all, when we did, the first pharmacies that had it were CVS and Walgreens. And they had a long-term care mission. So they were going to the long-term care facilities. They got the vaccine in the middle of December, they started going to the long-term care facilities the third week of December to do LTCs. So that was their mission. That was very important. And we trusted them to do that. As we got into January, we wanted to expand the distribution points. So yes, you had the counties, you had some drive through sites, you had hospitals that were doing a lot, but we wanted to get it into communities more. So we reached out to other retail pharmacies — Publix, Walmart — obviously CVS and Walgreens had to finish that mission. And we said, we’re going to use you as soon as you’re done with that. For Publix, they were the first one to raise their hand, say they were ready to go. And you know what, we did it on a trial basis. I had three counties. I actually showed up that weekend and talked to seniors across four different Publix. How was the experience? Is this good? Should you think this is a way to go? And it was 100% positive. So we expanded it, and then folks liked it. And I can tell you, if you look at a place like Palm Beach County, they were kind of struggling at first in terms of the senior numbers. I went, I met with the county mayor. I met with the administrator. I met with all the folks in Palm Beach County, and I said, “Here’s some of the options: we can do more drive-through sites, we can give more to hospitals, we can do the Publix, we can do this.” They calculated that 90% of their seniors live within a mile and a half of a Publix. And they said, “We think that would be the easiest thing for our residents.” So, we did that, and what ended up happening was, you had 65 Publix in Palm Beach. Palm Beach is one of the biggest counties, one of the most elderly counties, we’ve done almost 75% of the seniors in Palm Beach, and the reason is because you have the strong retail footprint. So our way has been multifaceted. It has worked. And we’re also now very much expanding CVS and Walgreens, now that they’ve completed the long term care mission.

Sharyn Alfonsi: The criticism is that it’s pay-to-play, governor.

Ron DeSantis: And it’s wrong. It’s wrong. It’s a fake narrative. I just disabused you of the narrative. And you don’t care about the facts. Because, obviously, I laid it out for you in a way that is irrefutable.

Sharyn Alfonsi: Well, I— I was just—

Ron DeSantis: And, so, it’s clearly not.

Sharyn Alfonsi: Isn’t there the nearest Publix —

Ron DeSantis: No, no, no. You’re wrong.

Sharyn Alfonsi: —30 miles away.

Ron DeSantis: You’re wrong. You’re wrong. Yes, sir?

Sharyn Alfonsi: That’s actually a fact.

So CBS “News” deceptively edited the segment to leave out the large chunk of DeSantis’s answer that explained how the distribution was arranged in order to smear DeSantis—and Publix—as participants in a pay-to-play scheme.

Two DEMOCRATS immediately called out “60 Minutes,” including Florida’s Division of Emergency Management Director, Jared Moskowitz, and Palm Beach County Mayor Dave Kerner.

Publix itself clapped back in a defense of its help in distributing vaccines because of the garbage reporting of CBS “News.”

You might be asking yourself, Why the hit piece on Ron DeSantis since his leadership in Florida emerging from the pandemic is so successful? Here’s why: he’s a major threat to Democrats in the 2024 presidential election.

I’d love to say that Democrats are afraid of him, but if the anti-American socialist progressive Democrat mob gets its way, we may never have a fair election again, what with HR-1 and flooding the country with illegal voters from Central and South America.

Nonetheless, the less complications the better, so the Left is starting now to tear down DeSantis through manufactured controversies. Unfortunately for CBS “News,” even the state’s Democrats see through the attempted smear. Plus, the news conference was public, so it doesn’t take much effort to fact check their “reporting.”

Maybe CBS “News” doesn’t know about the Internet yet.
