Daily Broadside | Tim Scott: “Hear Me Clearly: America Is Not a Racist Nation”

Daily Verse | 2 Chronicles 3:1
Then Solomon began to build the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David.

Put another week and month into the history books. It’s Friday and the end of April. When no one is looking I play bagpipes in a kilt.

I wrote yesterday about the Big Guy’s speech to an audience about half as large as Donald Trump’s first SOTU speech drew. The Resident’s 81 million “voters” can’t stand to listen to him either I guess. I sat through it because it’s culturally and politically relevant and fits with the purpose of this blog. Otherwise I would’ve just read the reports.

What I didn’t watch, and wish I had stuck around for, was the Republican Party’s rebuttal given by Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC). So I watched it today and, just as many others have said, it was an earnest and principled response to the pablum that Joey “You Ain’t Black” McMumbles fed us.

I want to note first that Tim Scott speaks plainly throughout his speech about his Christian faith.

“This past year, I’ve watched COVID attack every rung of the ladder that helped me up. So many families have lost parents and grandparents too early. So many small businesses have gone under. Becoming a Christian transformed my life — but for months, too many churches were shut down. Most of all, I am saddened that millions of kids have lost a year of learning when they could not afford to lose a single day.”

He refers to his “prayin’ momma,” original sin, and ends his speech with lyrics from a worship song. Faith, culture and politics—all rolled into one speech!

In his rebuttal, Scott first took Biden to task for promising unity, that he would be a president for “all Americans,” as if Trump been the divisive one. But as is quickly becoming clear, it’s Resident Biden and his Band of Junior Commies who are waging war on us.

He promised to unite a nation. To lower the temperature. To govern for all Americans, no matter how we voted. That was the pitch. You just heard it again. But our nation is starving for more than empty platitudes. We need policies and progress that bring us closer together.

But three months in, the actions of the president and his party are pulling us further apart.

Scott then set the theme of his speech: “I want to have an honest conversation about common sense and common ground. About this feeling that our nation is sliding off its shared foundation and how we move forward together.” I don’t think anyone on this side of the aisle would deny that it’s more than a feeling that our nation “is sliding off it’s shared foundation.”

I encourage you to listen to the whole thing. He’s not a super-polished speaker, but he’s sincere, thoughtful and a voice of reason.

The most poignant part of his speech, in my opinion, was when he addressed the issue of race relations in our country. Yes, he says, racism does exist in the United States.

Nowhere do we need common ground more desperately than in our discussions of race. I have experienced the pain of discrimination. I know what it feels like to be pulled over for no reason; to be followed around a store while I’m shopping.

I remember, every morning, at the kitchen table, my grandfather would open the newspaper and read it, I thought. Later, I realized he had never learned to read it. He just wanted to set the right example. I’ve also experienced a different kind of intolerance. I get called “Uncle Tom” and the N-word — by “progressives.” By liberals.

This is true. In fact, as if to help him prove his point, “Uncle Tim” was trending on Twitter for 12-hours before being pulled down by Jackboot Dorsey and his Marxist minions. Scott then exposes the nonsense behind the division.

When America comes together, we’ve made tremendous progress. But powerful forces want to pull us apart. A hundred years ago, kids in classrooms were taught the color of their skin was their most important characteristic — and if they looked a certain way, they were inferior.

Today, kids are being taught that the color of their skin defines them again — and if they look a certain way, they’re an oppressor. From colleges to corporations to our culture, people are making money and gaining power by pretending we haven’t made any progress at all, by doubling down on the divisions we’ve worked so hard to heal.

You know this stuff is wrong. Hear me clearly: America is not a racist country. It’s backwards to fight discrimination with different types of discrimination. And it’s wrong to try to use our painful past to dishonestly shut down debates in the present.

His admonition that you don’t fight discrimination with discrimination reminds me of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s quote, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” But the anti-Americans aren’t interested in logic, reason or reality. They’re only interested in power and forcibly cramming their Marxist ideology down our collective throats.

Scott draws his speech to a close with an uplifting vision of what America is and can be.

Our best future won’t come from Washington schemes or socialist dreams. It will come from you — the American people. Black, Hispanic, white, and Asian. Republican and Democrat. Brave police officers and black neighborhoods.

We are not adversaries. We are family! We are all in this together.

And we get to live in the greatest country on Earth. The country where my grandfather, in his 94 years, saw his family go from cotton to Congress in one lifetime. So I am more than hopeful — I am confident — that our finest hour is yet to come.

Original sin is never the end of the story. Not in our souls, and not for our nation. The real story is always redemption.

It’s a compelling story and one that our country desperately needs to hear. But to read the hostile responses to Scott’s speech suggests that those who need to hear it have rejected it.

Tim Scott is a living example that America’s defining feature isn’t racism, but personal liberty and responsibility. Don’t let the loudmouths have the last word.

Have a good weekend.

Daily Broadside | Biden Tells Country That White Supremacists Are ‘Most Lethal Terrorist Threat’

Daily Verse | 1 Chronicles 29:14
“Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.”

A very happy Thursday to you, Broadsiders. Ignorance is something I don’t understand.

Can you believe that today is the 100th day that Resident Biden has been in the White House? It’s been one hundred days of radical malfeasance, lies and misdirection. And last night the Resident himself stepped up to the mic and gave a glowing report on the state of the “union.”

It was an odd event given that the chamber wasn’t even half full, and those who were in view of the cameras were social distancing with masks in place and giving each other knuckles and elbows in greeting. If I was there, I’d be giving knuckles and elbows, too, but not in greeting.

There was the historic seating of two women behind the Resident as he gave his speech, the first time in U.S. history that has happened. It’s just too bad that it was these two anti-Americans that held the seats.

Honestly, it had all the feel of a reunion of an iconic rock group you used to love, like The Who or The Rolling Stones, but in a mausoleum. You want it to live up to the hype and grandeur of what you remember, but it’s all just going through the motions and the players can’t deliver like they used to.

It just seemed like a lot of empty theater.

So what did Biden say? Well, it wasn’t so much a “State of the Union” speech as much as it was an “A List of All the Spending I Want to Do to Wreck the Country So Get the Bill to My Desk” speech. His theme was “Crisis and Opportunity.” He painted us as a country in crisis when he took the oath of office and now “America is on the move again” — whatever that means.

Biden touched on everything from the Chinese Lung Pox to eliminating child poverty to job creation to health care to bringing home our troops to white supremacy to gun violence to racism to the right to vote. In every case it meant taking more money while promising not to burden the middle class with more taxes.

He started off making an absurd claim that the Capitol Hill breach on January 6 was “the worst attack on our democracy since the civil war.”

I’d point out that the protesters were allowed in by the Capitol Police, they were unarmed and the only person killed as a result of violence was an unarmed Trump supporter who was summarily executed with a bullet to the neck by a still-unnamed Capitol Police officer. Biden called it an “insurrection,” which it clearly wasn’t. Not to mention all the lies about Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick’s death, which was hyped as the result of a thrown fire extinguisher when in fact he suffered two strokes and died of natural causes a day later.

As Tyler O’Neil points out, “The Capitol rioters did break into the U.S. Capitol and vandalize it, stealing Nancy Pelosi’s rostrum. However, they did not kill anyone or stop the certification of the Electoral College vote in the 2020 presidential election.” It seems to have been a mixture of antifa agitators, Trump supporters and right wing agitators. On the other hand, how many thousands of anarchists raged through multiple cities over the last year, burning police stations and federal court buildings without being labeled extremists?

The moment causing me the most cringe was when he talked about the American Jobs Plan that includes building highways and bridges and railroads and he announced that Value Pick Harris would lead the effort. You mean the same VP Harris that you put in charge of controlling the border that’s really not under control?

Cue cynical, disbelieving laugh.

The worst of it all — besides the unfettered spending and intrusion of government into the lives of our children by suggesting that there be “free” pre-school education and another “free” two years of college after your standard 12 years of education for a total of 14 years of indoctrination — was when Biden said that white supremacy was now the greatest terrorist threat to the United States.

And, we won’t ignore what our own intelligence agencies have determined – the most lethal terrorist threat to the homeland today is from white supremacist terrorism.

Really? Exactly what does that phrase, “white supremacist terrorism,” mean? He didn’t define it and as a category, it’s rather vague. White supremacy means what, exactly? The Proud Boys? The KKK? White Evangelical Christians? Normal Americans who think the election was fraudulent?

And “terrorism.” Exactly what evidence do you have that such political violence is “the most lethal threat” to the our country? Show us the events, the body count and the massive plans you’re disrupting from these “white supremacists.”

This is part of a campaign to smear white, patriotic conservative Americans as a threat. Yes, there are white supremacists and yes, they occasionally commit some sort of crime. But they do not have the numbers to materially disrupt our safety and security. Therefore, that vague term, “white supremacist terrorism,” will be used to classify anyone who disputes or disagrees with the direction we’re headed.

Biden’s speech was mendacious, amounting to little more than a wish list that will take more money and more power from the people and transfer it to the government. It was a sad affair and makes me long for the day Resident Biden moves out.

Daily Broadside | Biden’s Executive Order More Powerful Than the Constitution

Daily Verse | 1 Chronicles 25:1
David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals.

It’s Wednesday and we’re at midpoint of the workweek. Ginsu doesn’t cut it for me.

I used to think that anyone who thought our government would sell us out to foreign enemies was an extremist, that they needed to get a grip on reality. No one in our government would ever do that because we’re all Americans. We’re the land of the free and home of the brave. We’re that beacon of light shining on a hill before the rest of the world. Sure, we might have our disagreements about policy here and there but at the end of the day, we are all trying to do what is best for the country.

Right?

Wrong. It may have been that I was correct in that constituent moment, my naiveté and blind faith in our leaders notwithstanding, but the truth is that there are anti-Americans in great numbers today who, regrettably, have their hands on the levers of power in this country. And they are not only selling us out to our foreign enemies like China and Russia, but they are selling us out to our domestic enemies like antifa and BLM, Inc., and the Marxists that litter the faculties of schools and media and federal institutions like the FBI.

Now they’re going after Normal Americans, people like you and me who question the 2020 election or who protest or who voice their disagreement with the current occupants of the White House. Resident Biden signed an Executive Order on Blocking Property with Respect to Specified Harmful Foreign Activities of the Government of the Russian Federation and, while it may sound like it’s directed at Russia, Leo Goldstein is worried.

Contrary to its title, this EO is not about Russia. It is designed to allow the Biden administration to deprive American citizens and organizations of their rights and property by arbitrarily linking those persons to real, imagined, or vaguely defined activities of the Russian government.

The Biden administration unilaterally makes the determination and requires neither criminal acts nor intent. The punishment is blocking assets and a prohibition on any dealing with the accused person. Spouses and adult children of individuals found guilty by accusation under this EO are punished, too.

It’s chilling to contemplate. Can this be true?

Over the past four years, the Democrat Party, Fake News, and Big Tech have been frequently portraying their opponents as Russian trolls or Russian misinformation operators. The Russian collusion narrative, initially invented to overthrow the Trump administration, has been used to smear many conservative movements. Now this effort has been crowned by an Executive Order.

That’s not hard to believe. Who can forget Russia! Russia! Russia! and the willing dupes in Congress and the media?

Section 1 of the EO enumerates prohibited activities and defines guilty persons as those “determined” by the Secretary of Treasury and/or Secretary of State in consultation with the Attorney General to be:

(a)(ii) responsible for or complicit in, or to have directly or indirectly engaged or attempted to engage in, any of the following for or on behalf of, or for the benefit of, directly or indirectly, the Government of the Russian Federation:

(A)  malicious cyber-enabled activities;
(B)  interference in a United States or other foreign government election;
(C)  actions or policies that undermine democratic processes or institutions in the United States or abroad;
(D)  transnational corruption;

Is a blog that criticizes the Democrats and their leadership a “malicious cyber-enabled activity” that “indirectly” benefits the Government of the Russian Federation?

In essence, what Goldstein is saying, is that this EO provides the federal government the legal room they need to conduct a massive purge of (presumably) conservatives without granting them due process or any means to fight it. Sarah Hoyt, a frequent contributor to Instapundit, wrote about this EO too. It’s a longer quote, but listen to her because she lived through what happened in Portugal.

All they have to do is make a list of those they consider to be Russian agents. The executive order itself says you can’t dispute your inclusion in this list.

(c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

[…]

Now, if they were sending goons to collect you, those of you who haven’t lost all your guns in a tragic boating accident would shoot, and it would be on like Donkey Kong.

But that’s not what will happen, and that’s why I’m writing this and asking everyone of you who has a blog and who knows they’re probably already on the list to share it. Or of course if you’re brave enough not to mind if you’re on the list. Note the “your spouse and adult children” too, which is intended to stop you doing anything, for the love of your kids.

I’ve seen this before. Very few people know that the “revolutionary” governments in Portugal froze bank accounts and assets of anyone who spoke out against them. One day you’d go to your bank to remove money, and you couldn’t. Your bank account was frozen as an enemy of the state.

Oh, you have a mortgage? Kids in school? Bills to pay? How terrible and sad it is that you are now functionally a pauper.

As for suddenly finding no one would give you a job, I never even figured out how word went out on that, and I don’t [sic] if anyone ever did.

Now, the times we’re living in? Will anyone notice a large number of people becoming suddenly unemployed, and/or having their house foreclosed upon? Help? Well, all they have to do is send a few people who look like government agents to your neighborhood and ask your neighbors (and friends, and associates) questions while strongly implied [sic] you’re a traitor working for a foreign power.

Your weapons? Well, then. Surely, you’ll sell them long before it comes time to …. well…. to starve I suppose.

Oh, but surely states will oppose this?

If it’s done the way it was in Portugal, most people won’t even be aware it is going on. Whatever the mechanisms are for flagging foreign enemies in the US — and they are there, and have been, from when our agencies were slightly less corrupt than they are now — will just be deployed, as they have always been, but against anyone who publicly and loudly disapproves of the Junta.

FYI that’s you and me. And anyone who believes in the Constitution and has made this clear in public at any time.

I’m no legal scholar, but there are people out there who carefully study these EOs. I’ve read it myself at the link above. It looks plausible to me and, if what Goldstein and Hoyt say is true, then this is obviously a cause for deep concern.

I’m no longer a naïve believer in the altruism of our government. We can no longer believe what they say. We live in a nation led by a corrupt oligarchy made up of ideologues who prefer power over the people rather than serving the people and upholding the Constitution of the United States of America as they swore to do.

At this point be praying, buy guns and ammo, and get ready for it to get a lot worse.

Daily Broadside | Oscars Ratings Crater But No One Knows Why

Daily Verse | 1 Chronicles 22: 19
Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God.

It’s Tuesday, my friends. When people tell me to get in shape I think, “round is a shape.”

The Academy Awards was this past Sunday. I know, right? I didn’t hear about them either until I saw the news Monday morning. And the news about the Oscars wasn’t all that positive. In fact, it was downright pitiable—if you pity the rich and hope they don’t lose their homes in Beverly Hills.

The prestigious awards show drew an average of 9.8 million viewers for ABC on Sunday, according to early Nielsen numbers. That’s 58% below the ratings from last year’s show, the previous lowest-rated Oscars, which brought in in 23.6 million viewers.

The show remains one of the most-watched broadcast events, but its viewership represents a steep drop from what the show used to bring in. Just seven years ago, the Oscars nabbed more than 40 million viewers.

An almost 60 percent drop in viewers! Gee, what could have caused their ratings to crater? Let’s see what the analysts at CNN think.

So why did the Oscars lose so much of its audience? For a myriad of reasons.

Oh good. Someone with some solid information about to break it all down for us.

Ratings for awards shows across the board have suffered during the pandemic: Viewership for the Emmys, Grammys and Golden Globes have all plummeted lately.

Got it. The pandemic. See, all the other shows have lost viewers during the pandemic while everyone is locked down at home, ergo, the Academy Awards lost viewers. This is called the I’m Inferring Why the Oscars Lost Viewers Because I Have a Deadline Fallacy.

If high schools actually taught something useful, like logic, you would know that Correlation does not imply Causation.

The Oscars may have also struggled since many of the films nominated for major awards weren’t well known to general audiences. Hollywood held back many of its biggest films, hoping audiences would return to theaters later this year and in 2022. The Oscars are a kind of ad for going to the movies, and a lot of people haven’t been able to do that in more than a year because of the pandemic.

So you admit that the Oscars are a big promotional event to sell more tickets to the movies but people haven’t been able to do that because of the … pandemic. We already did that one.

As for the show itself, the reviews were decidedly mixed.

Like this one: “Oscars 2021 tortured viewers for more than 3 unbearable hours.

OK, some of the fall off could be due to the pandemic and the, uh, pandemic and a terrible production. But sixty percent of likely viewers?

Nah.

What could it be? What could. it. be?

Ah, how about this? How about Normal Americans who don’t care about Hollywood anymore so they’ve stopped watching the self-licking lollipop called the Academy Awards? You know, those deplorables who live in fly-over country who are lectured by rich snobs about how morally horrid they are because of their white privilege and who rage about a president that half the country voted for?

Maybe that has something to do with it. Maybe?

Nothing like a bunch of overpaid elites who pretend they’re someone else for a living lecturing the guy who sits in a cube farm trying to make an honest wage to feed his family, put the kids through college, pay the mortgage, the car loan, the utilities and still have enough to take his wife out to the movies where they’re charged $12 a ticket, $7 for a bucket of popcorn and $4 for a less white Coke.

You want me to turn on the television and subject myself to that?

Yeah, no thanks.

I will grant one exception to all of that. During the show on Sunday, Tyler Perry was honored with the Academy’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. As I understand it, Perry is not only a creative genius, but he’s a sincerely humble man who has not forgotten his roots.

Viola Davis introduced Perry with glowing remarks. “Tyler Perry personifies empathy,” she said. “Tyler knows what it is to be hungry, to be without a home, to feel unsafe and uncertain. So when he buys groceries for 1,000 of his neighbors, supports a women’s shelter, or quietly pays tuition for a hard-working student, Tyler is coming from a place of shared experience.”

That was one bright spot in an otherwise forgettable awards program. It’s too bad more people didn’t get to see it.

But as they say: Get Woke, Go Broke.

Daily Broadside | Trump is Out But MAGA Is Still Here

Daily Verse | 1 Chronicles 17:20
There is no one like you, O Lord, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.

Happy Monday, Broadsiders, and welcome to the last week of April. “Thirty days hath September, April, May June and November; all the rest have 31, except March 2020, which has 936 if we’re counting two weeks to flatten the curve.”

This weekend on my way to a hardware store I was sitting at a red light when a pick-up truck sporting a large Trump flag drove through the intersection in front of me. I had to check my watch; wasn’t Trump sort of last November or, at the latest, January 6?

Seeing a Trump flag go whipping by out of “proper” political context sort of encouraged me. I often rehearse for people who want to know that I was a Never Trumper during the 2016 primaries because he was a braggart and loudmouth and then I wrote in a third-party candidate in the general election, probably because I loved Hillary and wanted to kill our country or something.

Anyway, by the end of Trump’s first term I finally understood the man and his temperament. I saw him keeping promises as he brought back jobs, closed the border, revved the economy, got us out of idiotic international agreements, pulled our troops out of pointless conflicts, made us energy-independent and asserted American exceptionalism as the entire DC machine tried to take him down while he set about destroying the pretense that the legacy media are objective truth seekers and instead are the communist sympathizers they are.

He was actually making things happen for the benefit of everyone. Black and Latino unemployment was at record lows; our overall unemployment numbers were at record lows, companies were having a hard time finding people to employ and stocks kept setting records. We were cruising.

But then came the Asian Lung Pox, unleashed by the Chinese Communist Party on an unsuspecting world. Dr. Faux Chi, an inept bureaucrat whose salary is more than the president’s of the United States, played right into their hands and insisted that this virus was such an existential threat to health and life that America must “shelter in place” and shut down completely, in the process destroying the economy and thousands of small businesses.

Trump didn’t help himself by being at the lectern every day which tied him to the results and amplified every turn of phrase and claim that he made. He should’ve let Pence and the team handle it.

Add to that the death of George Floyd and the months of Burn, Loot and Murder, Inc., as anarchists took to the streets demanding that the police be defunded and that white people admit their privilege and supremacy and give up their place in society and pretty soon the U.S. looked like some kind of banana republic as people cowered out of confusion and fear of what they could and couldn’t do while the Marxists took over the streets.

Top it all off with a fraudulent election and an unwise breach of the Capitol and Trump was turned out by the junior commies of the Left and their enablers in the House and Senate—and I’m not just talking about Democrats. And now we’ve got a brain-dead cypher as figurehead-in-chief who’s being trundled around like a “Weekend at Bernie’s” corpse.

All this to say that when Trump left office, I felt his departure acutely. And it seems as though someone else has, too, someone who flies his Trump flag in the face of any and all who voted for the feckless Resident occupying the White House right now.

Seeing the flag was encouraging because it’s defiant. It says that in spite of your anti-American subversion of the Constitution and all that it guarantees us as free men and women, I stand proudly and defiantly against you. It tells the community around here that the MAGA spirit is still alive and well in America, and it won’t be long until we’re able to again vote against the forces arrayed against us in all of the institutions that have been corrupted by both elected and unelected MAGA-haters who despise our founding and the men who invented our form of government.

So be encouraged. I plan to fly my Trump flag this summer as an act of solidarity with the anonymous pickup truck driver and as a way to thumb my nose at the domestic enemies living in my country. I want to tell the community that we haven’t gone away, we’re not defeated and that hope springs eternal.

If they think America First has gone the way of the dodo, they have another think coming.

Daily Broadside | A Knife Fight is Just Girls Being Girls

Daily Verse | 1 Chronicles 5:20
He answered their prayers because they trusted in him.

Friday and we’re heading into the weekend after another infusion of cultural Marxist incoherence smeared across our collective conscience, an assault that started last year and, like a snowball rolling downhill, has only picked up more speed and weight.

The latest glass beads added to the blackjack being smacked upside the head of white America are courtesy of Bree Newsome and LeBron Raymone James. They come in the wake of another police shooting, this time in Columbus, Ohio. Officer Nicholas Reardon responded to a 911 call reporting that someone was “trying to stab us” and threatening the caller’s grandmother.

What happened next unfolded in nine seconds from the time Officer Reardon got out of his patrol car to the time he shot 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant.

As Reardon got out of his vehicle, he encountered seven people outside a two-story brick home and asked, “What’s going on?” Yelling could be heard in the background.

An unidentified girl appeared to fall to the grass after being attacked by Bryant and then kicked by an unidentified man. The video footage then showed Bryant, who was holding a knife, appearing to lunge toward a person dressed in pink who was pinned against a car parked in the driveway.

“Hey! Hey!” Reardon said as he pulled his gun. “Get down! Get down!”

He fired four quick shots, and Bryant dropped to the ground at the edge of the driveway.

A witness yelled, “Why did you shoot her?”

The officer responded, “She came at her with a knife,” apparently referring to Bryant and the person dressed in pink.

Officer Reardon is white and Ma’Khia Bryant is black. The shooting happened just after a Minneapolis jury returned a guilty verdict on all charges in Derek Chauvin’s trial for murdering George Floyd last year. Needless to say, a white male cop shooting a black girl in that context merely inflamed an already tense national conversation with a lot of hot takes.

Bree Newsome, a prominent Black Lives Matter activist who achieved notoriety for pulling down the Confederate Flag at the South Carolina Statehouse in 2015, responded by telling the police to not interfere.

I’m as flabbergasted as the next guy. She’s sincerely suggesting that the police should just “let girls be girls” and have a knife fight. In this case, it may have meant that the girl in pink could’ve been stabbed to death. But Bree Newsome claims that Blacks “do not need police to address these situations” with a weapon.

Does she realize how preposterous that sounds? She’s advocating for a return to some form of lawlessness where people take matters into their own hands without interference from the state. What she means is that rather than a cop pulling a weapon and shooting an attacker, the Black community will just handle it themselves. And she’s entirely serious about it.

How would that work, exactly?

Then there’s LeBron James, one of the most recognized names in the world of sports, who has almost 50 million followers on Twitter. He tweeted, then deleted, this about Officer Reardon.

A bunch of opinionists said the tweet was threatening the officer with death, but I think he’s just saying the officer will go the way of Derek Chauvin. However, the heat got to be too much, so he deleted it. Afterwards he posted another one.

How about holding Ma’Khia Bryant accountable for her actions?

Ma’Khia Bryant chased two women and shoved one down to the ground. Ma’Khia Bryant didn’t stop chasing the women when she saw the officer. Ma’Khia Bryant brandished a knife. Ma’Khia Bryant trapped another girl against a car and looked as though she was about to stab that girl. Ma’Khia Bryant didn’t obey the officer telling her to get down.

The officer had a split second to decide whether to use lethal force against Bryant, who was clearly attacking another person with a potentially lethal weapon.

I don’t blame him for deciding to shoot.

Because I hold a different view from the pervasive CRT view—that white supremacy is the cause of all black versus white conflict—I need to clearly say that I don’t deny the severity of Ma’Khia Bryant’s death. I can’t speak for others, but I am grieved by her death. I mourn for much different reasons than CRT demands, but I am saddened all the same that a sixteen-year-old girl was shot and killed.

But I’m also tired of being blamed by black activists for blacks who commit crime and refuse to cooperate with responding officers and get themselves shot. That isn’t right, either.

Daily Broadside | The Left Means to Destroy Our Country As Founded

Daily Verse | 2 Kings 24:20
It was because of the Lord’s anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust them from his presence.

It’s Thursday and the slow burn of the country formerly known as the United States of America continues apace. At the top of the list is the sacrificial white man Derek Chauvin who was tossed to the braying mob by the jurors in the false hope that it would appease the gods of woke. That of course won’t happen because once you feed the beast instead of starving it, it only wants more.

So now the activists that reside in Washington, D.C. will push their advantage by opening a “civil investigation to determine whether the Minneapolis police department has engaged in a pattern and practice of unconstitutional … policing,” announced yesterday by Merrick Garland, the US attorney general.

The probe will also determine “whether the Minneapolis police department engages in a pattern and practice of using excessive force during protests.” Garland said this new civil investigation was “separate from and independent of the federal criminal investigation into the death of George Floyd.”

So now we’re going to harass the cops who are trying to keep the streets safe and protect innocent civilians during “protests.” Anyone want to bet on what the findings will be? Wouldn’t want any mostly violent protesters getting hurt by the police while they’re breaking windows, setting fires, beating passersby, and looting stores. Gee, I wonder why cops are retiring in record numbers?

In spite of the convictions the Chauvin jury returned, these BLM activists demand that people trying to eat at a local restaurant leave New York City (NSFW language). See how pacified the black and white Marxists are? Let the healing begin!

Then there’s the insipid tendentiousness of the Bronx ditz Ms. AOC. She offered a take on climate change that challenges our understanding of the English language and all rules of logic.

“We must recognize in legislation that the trampling of indigenous rights is a cause of climate change, that the trampling of racial justice is a cause of climate change, because … we are allowing folks to deny ourselves human rights and deny people the right to health care, the right to housing and education.”

Seriously, what does one do with that Gordian verbal knot?

“Trampling indigenous rights is a cause of climate change.” Who knew that populating America with white people would cause the climate to “change”?

“Trampling racial justice is a cause of climate change.” Same. Can you believe that the Democrats and their defense of slavery, the KKK and Jim Crow laws would cause the earth to cool, then to heat up!?

“Because …” Here come the reasons …!

“We are allowing folks to deny ourselves human rights …” Wait, wut?

“… and deny people the right to health care …” Seriously? I thought Obamacare took care of that. It didn’t?

“… the right to housing and education.” Who in this country is denied housing or education? You know that we’re even providing all the illegal alien children with in-person schooling, right?

And this somehow all translates into the dreaded “climate change.”

She’s speaking English but it’s all Greek to me. Sometimes I think progressives just blurt a stream of consciousness that in their own head makes perfect sense—or maybe not—but that normal people can’t understand and therefore can’t respond to. Mind you, she wants to introduce legislation based on this mindless mishmash of unproveable claims. In days past, AOC would’ve been roundly mocked for her delirium, but that is verboten in today’s climate of change. (See what I did there?)

Finally, here’s one I bet you didn’t see coming. The United States Post Office has been spying on your social media posts.

The law enforcement arm of the U.S. Postal Service has been quietly running a program that tracks and collects Americans’ social media posts, including those about planned protests, according to a document obtained by Yahoo News.

The details of the surveillance effort, known as iCOP, or Internet Covert Operations Program, have not previously been made public. The work involves having analysts trawl through social media sites to look for what the document describes as “inflammatory” postings and then sharing that information across government agencies.

Oh. Gone are the days of holding envelopes up to the light. Now the postman is reading through what you post on social media in order to rat you out to “government agencies.” I thought they delivered mail, not intelligence. This is part of a troubling trend of an expanding U.S. surveillance state.

A conviction for murder is a validation of racism. Racism is a cause of climate change. And the United States Post Office is taking notes on your social media accounts and passing them “across government agencies.” Like the FBI, DOJ, IRS and who knows who else.

Our once proud nation is being eroded at a faster and faster pace. I’ll give the last word to David Horowitz who, in a piece about the Chauvin verdict, writes about the activists pushing the narrative about racism.

In fact, we won’t be able to stop these destroyers until we recognize that they regard us – America – as the criminals. They have no respect for us and our laws and institutions. They hate us. They are busy spreading the Hate-America-Lies of our enemies Communist China, Islamo-fascist Iran and Putin. And they mean business. Their goal is the destruction of America. They will succeed unless we start taking them seriously and work to expose and crush them.

Daily Broadside | The Poisoned Verdict in the Derek Chauvin Case

Daily Verse | 2 Kings 21:9
But the people did not listen. Manasseh led them astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the Lord had destroyed before the Israelites.

Mid-week and the big story is that former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty yesterday on all charges against him. Chauvin had been charged with second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The jury delivered its verdict after 10 hours of deliberations over two days.

I didn’t listen to any of the trial, so any information I have about it is second- or third-hand news reports or commentary, just like the vast majority of Americans. I also don’t know the technical ins and outs of the legal differences between second-degree unintentional murder and third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, although on the surface it seems understandable. So I don’t have much of a leg to stand on to dispute the jury’s findings.

But I do know this: Derek Chauvin wasn’t on trial for murder. He was on trial for being a racist.

Oh, technically he was standing trial for murdering George Floyd, but that’s not why the story stayed in the public eye for the last year. The reason we know about George Floyd and Derek Chauvin is because Chauvin is white and Floyd is black. The reason we know about George Floyd and Derek Chauvin is because Floyd’s death ignited violent protests involving Black Lives Matter, Inc., in multiple cities across the nation that caused billions of dollars in damage and killed 19 people. The reason we know about George Floyd and Derek Chauvin is because of claims that police are racist and that “America has its knee on people of color.”

George Floyd’s death and alleged racist motivations have been inextricably conflated together. The story is that George Floyd was murdered because he was black.

George Floyd’s death was claimed to be murder and the murder was claimed to be driven by racism. The Left wouldn’t separate the two then and won’t separate the two now. After the verdict was announced, Black Lives Matter, Inc., wrote, “But let’s be clear — This verdict does not change what we know all too well: White supremacy still exists.” Resident Biden stayed awake long enough to say, “[Floyd’s murder] ripped the blinders off for the whole world to see the systemic racism. Systemic racism — a stain on our nation’s soul.” Jesse Jackson, race monger extraordinaire said, “The killing continues. We must break the backbone of legal lynching forever. Police killing people is getting away with legal lynching.”

In the minds of the progressive Left, then, a guilty verdict for murder in this case means Chauvin is guilty of racism.

But racist motivations were not proven in court. The prosecution didn’t provide evidence for racism and the defense didn’t provide evidence disproving racism. Racism can’t be proven in this case unless Derek Chauvin confesses that he kneeled on George Floyd’s neck because he hates black men and wanted to kill Floyd.

Forgive and act; deal with everyone according to all they do, since you know their hearts (for you alone know every human heart).

1 Kings 8:39;

Racism is an attitude, a deformity of character, a worldview, a matter of the heart. It shows up in words and actions and nothing Derek Chauvin did the day George Floyd died suggests that he was provoked by Floyd’s race to murder him. There is simply no evidence for it. All of the officers involved were patient and non-aggressive as Floyd resisted arrest for more than eight minutes and claimed to be claustrophobic and refused to comply with commands to get in the squad car.

Derek Chauvin couldn’t get a fair trial because the case was poisoned by accusations of racism from the start and then reinforced by violence and political clowns like Mad Maxine Waters demanding a guilty verdict. The only appropriate considerations should have been the evidence for and against his responsibility for Floyd’s death.

Rightly or wrongly, the jury decided that Chauvin was responsible for Floyd’s death. Perhaps he was. But we don’t know, and can’t know, whether Chauvin was motivated by racism. Only God knows that.

Undeterred, however, the Left let us know that racist policing was being decided in this case. And on that, unfortunately for them (and for us), the jury is still out.

Daily Broadside | Mad Maxine Fails Her Own Standards of Guilt

Daily Verse | 2 Kings 17:15
They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them, “Do not do as they do,” and they did all the things the Lord had forbidden them to do.

It’s the second day of the third week of the fourth month of twenty-twenty-one. A recent study found that women who are a little heavier live longer than the men who mention it.

On January 6, you may remember, President Trump held a rally and said things like this:

Now it is up to Congress to confront this egregious assault on our democracy. And after this, we’re going to walk down and I’ll be there with you. We’re going to walk down—we’re going to walk down. Anyone you want, but I think right here, we’re going to walk down to the Capitol—And we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women and we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them—I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard. Today, we will see whether Republicans stand strong for integrity of our elections.

He claimed that the election was stolen and invited the crowd to walk down to the Capitol with him to make their voices heard “peacefully and patriotically” to the Senators who were confirming the electoral college votes. We all know what happened after that; the Capitol was breached and President Trump was later impeached for “incitement of insurrection.”

The charge was ridiculous and the Senate acquitted him.

One of those who voted to impeach Donald J. Trump a second time was Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA). In fact, she boasted on her official government website that she drafted four articles of impeachment “in response to the tragedy of January 6, 2021.” Mad Max was deeply troubled that “Donald Trump provided white supremacists, right-wing extremists, and conspiracy theorists validation and free reign to spew hatred, bigotry, and racism, and yes – commit extreme violence.”

How ironic, then, that this past weekend she showed up in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, flapping her yapper in support of demonstrators protesting the police killing of Daunte Wright on April 11. But she also made some comments that did more than imply violence, unlike the comments of President Donald J. Trump.

Speaking of the Derek Chauvin trial, here’s some of what she said.

  • I’m going to fight with all of the people who stand for justice. We’ve got to get justice in this country and we cannot allow these killings to continue.
  • I know this, we’ve got to stay in the streets. We are looking for a guilty verdict.
  • If nothing does not happen then we have to not only stay in the streets but we have to fight for justice. I am very hopeful and I hope that we are going to get a verdict that is guilty, guilty, guilty and if we don’t, we cannot go away.
  • Oh, not manslaughter. Oh, no, this is guilty of murder! I don’t know if it’s in the first degree, but as far as I’m concerned it’s first-degree murder!
  • We’ve got to stay on the street and we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business.

Here’s an elected official of our national government demanding a certain outcome and threatening “more” confrontation. The outcome she demands is, guilty of first-degree murder, which is impossible because Chauvin is not charged with first-degree murder. But Mad Max isn’t interested in facts; “I don’t know if it’s in the first degree, but as far as I’m concerned it’s first-degree murder!”

Having set the expectation for the jury to do the impossible, she then threatens the city with continued riots. Remember, Minneapolis is where Burn Loot Murder began and there’s been rioting, looting, murder and arson. How could it possibly get “more confrontational”?

This isn’t the first time that Waters has called for confrontation with the people she dislikes. In 2018 she told a group of her supporters to harass Trump administration officials.

Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.

By her own standards, Mad Max fails the incitement test. The editorial board of the New York Post is demanding that she be removed from office:

Maxine Waters is trying to create a civil war, and her irresponsible rhetoric is inciting violence. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should strip her of her committee assignments and move for a vote to remove Waters from office.

Of course, Nancy Pelosi has declined to censure, impeach or otherwise punish Waters, who, to borrow her words, has “provided Blacks, left-wing extremists, and members of Antifa validation and free reign to commit extreme violence.”

The lack of consequences is simply another example of the Left’s double standards. One set of rules for conservatives, another set for progressives.

If the Left didn’t have double standards, they’d have none at all.

Daily Broadside | Killer Kids and the Absence of Conscience

Daily Verse | 2 Kings 14:3
He did what was right in the eyes of hte Lord, but not as his father David had done. In everything he followed the example of his father Joash.

It’s Monday and believe it or not, there’s only one more weekend in April. Also, only dead fish go with the flow.

You may or may not have heard of Mohammad Anwar. Anwar is the 66-year-old Pakistani immigrant who made his living as an Uber Eats driver. On March 23, two girls, ages 13 and 15, carjacked him in Washington, D.C. They tasered him and then, as he climbed on top of the girl in the driver’s seat in an attempt to keep them from driving off with the car, the 13-year-old reached over from the passenger seat, turned the ignition and put it in gear. The 15-year-old floored it, the car careening down the street with Anwar hanging on outside the driver’s side door, which remained open. After racing down the wrong lane, slamming the open door against a light pole, the car made a sharp right around a corner at the end of the block and crashed, passenger side up.

Anwar was thrown from the car and lay crumpled on the sidewalk, up against a wrought-iron fence, with broken bones and fatal head injuries. Both girls climbed from the car and then the 13-year-old said, “My phone is in there! My phone!”

It’s disturbing but you can watch the video here.

It’s also disturbing that none of the papers reported that the two girls were Black. It wouldn’t be disturbing except that race is all the rage today, in case you hadn’t noticed. If the two girls had been white, that is the first thing that media reports would have made sure we knew. But if the perpetrators are Black, the media simply leaves that fact out.

Don’t believe it? Here’s another example:

“The videos are graphic and shocking. In January, a local television station showed footage of a young man sprinting toward, then violently shoving to the ground, a man identified as Vicha Ratanapakdee, 84, who had been out for a morning walk in the Anza Vista neighborhood of San Francisco. He later died.”

The Times piece never reveals the name or race of the perpetrator: Antoine Watson, a 19-year-old black man.

Concludes Danusha Goska,

When African Americans, including children, commit shocking, violent crimes against the elderly, against women, against Jews, against harmless working class immigrants, these stories are not given the same coverage. In something so simple as vocabulary choice, these stories are suppressed.

Because legacy media (The New York Times, The Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN, and others) are populated by cultural Marxists, it is in their interests to amplify the races of white-on-minority crime, but not minority-on-white or minority-on-minority crime. That’s disturbing because readers are left with the impression that only whites are perpetrating racially-motivated crimes (something also known as propaganda).

Setting aside the race baiting tabloids, however, the most disturbing thing about the crime is the utter lack of conscience demonstrated by either of the two girls. They had just stolen a car, wrecked it and killed the victim. Yet the youngest was pre-occupied with her phone. Her phone.

It’s astounding.

How is it that in today’s culture, two young girls can commit strong arm robbery in broad daylight, kill a 66-year-old man and then walk away unruffled except that their phone is still in the car they wrecked? No concern over their victim. No shock over having just survived an overturned car. No fear of being caught. No impulse to run away. No terror over what the consequences might be. In just over a decade of life they had grown from innocent baby girls into savage killers impervious to the gravity of the crime or the suffering they had just caused.

This is why scripture says that fathers are to bring their children up “in the training and instruction of the Lord” and why we are to impress the Lord’s guidance on our children. It is the parents (and fathers in particular) who are to instill in their children an understanding of right and wrong based on the character and nature of God.

Our culture won’t truly heal until we do.
