Daily Broadside | The Situation in the Middle East is Volatile

Is the current eruption of violence and conflict in the Middle East a prelude to World War III?

The United States sees the prospect of a significant escalation in attacks on its troops in the Middle East and of Iran seeking to widen the war between Israel and the Hamas terrorist group, the top U.S. diplomat and defense officials said on Sunday.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the United States did not want to see the conflict spread and that recent U.S. deployments to the region were designed to prevent this.

“This is not what we want, not what we’re looking for. We don’t want escalation,” Mr. Blinken told NBC News on Sunday. “We don’t want to see our forces or our personnel come under fire. But if that happens, we’re ready for it.”

Of course, no one can predict the future except God. But there are great risks with the coming fight in Gaza. Israel has already warned both Hezbollah and their state-sponsor Iran to stay out of it.

Israel’s military spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said the country had increased airstrikes across Gaza to hit targets that would reduce the risk to troops in the next stage of the war.

Fears of a widening war grew as Israeli warplanes struck targets across Gaza, two airports in Syria and a mosque in the occupied West Bank allegedly used by militants.

Israel has traded fire with Hezbollah militants since the war began, and tensions are soaring in the West Bank, where Israeli forces have battled militants in refugee camps and carried out two airstrikes in recent days.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told troops in northern Israel that if Hezbollah launches a war, “it will make the mistake of its life. We will cripple it with a force it cannot even imagine, and the consequences for it and the Lebanese state will be devastating.”

[…]

Israel repeated its calls for people to leave northern Gaza, including by dropping leaflets from the air. It estimated 700,000 have already fled. But hundreds of thousands remain. That would raise the risk of mass civilian casualties in any ground offensive.

Israeli military officials say Hamas’ infrastructure and underground tunnels are concentrated in Gaza City, in the north, and that the next stage of the offensive will include unprecedented force there. Israel says it wants to crush Hamas. Officials have also spoken of carving out a buffer zone to keep Palestinians from approaching the border, though they have given no details.

“Unprecedented force.” That means ratcheting up the power of the munitions and engaging in curb-stomping violence. Israel has also been attacking in Syria to prevent engagement there.

Syrian state media, meanwhile, reported that Israeli airstrikes hit the international airports in the capital, Damascus, and the northern city of Aleppo, killing one person and putting the runways out of service.

Israel has carried out several strikes in Syria since the war began. Israel rarely acknowledges individual strikes, but says it acts to prevent Hezbollah and other militants from bringing in arms from Iran, which also supports Hamas.

And if Iran refuses to stand down?

Israel last night vowed to cut off ‘the head of the snake’ and launch a military attack against Iran if Tehran-backed terror group Hezbollah joins the war.

In an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday, Nir Barkat, Israel’s Minister of Economy, warned that Iran’s Ayatollahs will be ‘wiped off the face of the earth’ should Hezbollah, their proxy terror group in Lebanon, attack Israel.

His incendiary comments raise the grave spectre of a rapidly escalating regional conflict and come ahead of an expected Israeli ground invasion of the Gaza Strip to ‘annihilate’ Hamas.

How could Israel wipe Iran off the face of the earth?

Nuclear weapons, my friends.

Israel has a three-stage plan for their war on Hamas.

Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant laid out Israel’s war aims in three stages while speaking to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Friday.

The war against Hamas was unavoidable and a “war of no choice,” Gallant told the committee members.

He went on to give an overview of the army’s operations so far, before presenting his strategic aims for the war, which will be reached in three stages.

“We are in the first phase, in which a military campaign is taking place with [air]strikes and later with a [ground] maneuver with the purpose of destroying operatives and damaging infrastructure in order to defeat and destroy Hamas,” Gallant said.

“The second phase will be an intermediate phase, continuing the fighting at a lower intensity and eliminating pockets of resistance.”

“The third phase will be the creation of a new security regime in the Gaza Strip, the removal of Israel’s responsibility for daily life there, and the creation of a new security reality for the citizens of Israel and the residents of the surrounding area,” Gallant explained.

Big changes are coming both there, and potentially here in America. We’re already seeing a surge in Jewish citizens arming themselves.

Firearm instructors and Jewish security groups across the country say they have been flooded with new clientele since Hamas assaulted Israel on Oct. 7. And gun shop owners in Florida say they have seen more Jews purchase firearms in recent weeks than ever before.

“We’ve definitely seen a tremendous increase in religious Jewish people, Orthodox people, purchasing firearms,” said David Kowalsky, who owns Florida Gun Store in the town of Hollywood, and also offers firearms training classes. “I’ve seen a surge in interest in individual training as well as group training.”

For those of you who cheered the ouster of a president who kept us out of any new wars because of his MeAn TwEeTs, congratulations on your choice. Your adults are back in charge, baby!

Daily Broadside | Surprise! The U.S. Military is Rated “Weak”

Daily Verse | Luke 1:66
Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, “What then is this child going to be?” For the Lord’s hand was with him.

Wednesday’s Reading: Luke 5-7

Midweek Wednesday and glad you are here.

In what country do you find the regime in charge actively undermining their own armed forces and degrading their ability to make and win wars, essentially making themselves sitting ducks for hostile forces to attack?

At one time, the United States had the most feared military in the world. But, starting under Barack Hussein Obama, our armed forces began a slow decline in readiness and competence. Remember when he replaced nearly 200 generals, colonels and flag officers in the U.S. military over five years with men and women who supported his socialist views in an unprecedented purge?

Here’s where that deliberate destruction has led us (paywall at The Epoch Times).

The U.S. military is at growing risk of not being able to meet the demands of defending America’s vital national interests, according to an annual report released by The Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based conservative think tank.

“This is the logical consequence of years of sustained use, underfunding, poorly defined priorities, wildly shifting security policies, exceedingly poor discipline in program execution, and a profound lack of seriousness across the national security establishment even as threats to U.S. interests have surged,” the report says.

You mean designing flight suits for pregnant women and integrating sexually confused men and women into combat units isn’t in our best interests?

You don’t say.

The report measures each branch of the military’s capability, capacity, and readiness on a scale of: very weak, weak, marginal, strong, and very strong. Here’s what they found for each.

U.S. Army overall score: Marginal (same as last year)

U.S. Navy overall score: Weak (down from Marginal last year)

U.S. Air Force overall score: Very Weak (down from Weak/Marginal last year)

U.S. Marines overall score: Strong (up from Marginal last year)

U.S. Space Force overall score: Weak

The Epoch Times’ story concludes,

Considering the branches together, the U.S. military posture is rated as weak. The report concludes that the current U.S. military force is at significant risk of not being able to meet the demands of a single major regional conflict while also attending to various presence and engagement activities.

Not only is our military woefully unprepared to fight a major conflict, but Dopey Joe has just further drained our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to ease gas prices in a bid to lull us all into voting for more of what he and his brand of junta are offering us.

The administration will direct the Energy Department (DOE) to auction the remaining 14 million barrels after President Joe Biden authorized the sale of 180 million barrels of oil in March to bring down gas prices, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the situation. The White House is desperate to lower the price of gasoline due to concern that high prices could weaken the Democrats’ chances of winning key congressional and gubernatorial races on Nov. 8.

The SPR is at its lowest level since 1984.

Norms restored!

Even evil empires have strong militaries and are ready to defend themselves from their enemies. Not us. The goal of the libs and #NeverTrump is to destroy the United States as founded while preserving their elite grifting status.

Soon we’ll all be speaking Chinese and chairman Xi Jinping will eliminate progressive virtue signaling—permanently. But, at least there won’t be any mean tweets!

Daily Broadside | Big Talk Is Only Big if You Can Back it Up

Daily Verse | Deuteronomy 10:12-13
And now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

Friday’s Reading: Deuteronomy 13-17
Saturday’s Reading: Deuteronomy 18-21

It’s Friday and by some accounts, we are now on the cusp of World War III. Russia has indeed invaded its neighbor and former satellite in a campaign to reunite with so-called breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine. Vladimir Putin called Ukraine part of “ancient Russian lands” in an address on Monday.

While I’m doubtful that the Russian minor incursion invasion will lead to a broader conflict, all bets are off if Putin pushes beyond the western border of Ukraine where lie Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, all of whom are members of NATO. If Russia crosses the border of any of these nations, it would be considered an attack on all members, including US and the UK.

But never fear! Brandon reassured us that with him in charge, ol’ Putin would be shakin’ in his boots.

And there was also this before that:

Biden similarly said in a Twitter video in October 2019 that Putin’s “days of tyranny” would be over when he was president.

“I’m going to stand up to him, he’s a bully,” then-presidential candidate Biden said.

“Putin knows that when I am president of the United States his days of tyranny and trying to intimidate the United States and those in Eastern Europe are over,” he continued.

How’s everybody liking the end of Putin’s tyranny?

I’m not sure Putin was as impressed going toe to toe with Biden as Biden was going toe to toe with Putin. In fact, Brandon is rather enamored with himself, isn’t he?

Like everything else that Biden says, it was empty rhetoric, his words hollow theatrics that he could never live up to, the boasting of a feeble-brained idiot who has no moral center—unless you call enriching himself on the backs of taxpayers a “moral center.”

What has Brandon done to dissuade the Russian tyrant? Besides supporting Germany in shutting down the Russian-led Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline (which Biden had green-lighted while shutting down the Keystone Pipeline on his first day in office), the Resident is now introducing sanctions specifically targeting Russian financial markets.

Biden said that the sanctions will target Russian elites, banks, and technology exports which he claimed will cripple Russia’s ability to modernize its military and will damage the Russian economy.

Say, do you think Putin might have anticipated such a response? Here’s what Putin has said about anyone thinking about interfering with his “special operations.”

“To anyone who would consider interfering from outside: If you do, you will face consequences greater than any you have faced in history. All the relevant decisions have been taken. I hope you hear me,” Mr Putin said.

Does anyone doubt that he has the manpower, willpower and firepower to back up his Trumpian-style threat?

Still, what we should be concerned about is not so much what’s happening in eastern Europe, but what the fallout will be here in the U.S.

The Russian attack caused the price of Brent crude to spike more than 8 percent to as much as $105 a barrel. The price of U.S. crude also jumped 7.5 percent to about $99 a barrel. Russia is the world’s second largest producer of oil, and the second largest exporter of crude oil. Europe is particularly reliant on Russian energy.

How will that translate into the price of filling up your car?

The price of gas continues to soar in this era of Bidenflation. It is getting so bad, some experts are warning that we could see prices as outrageously high as $7 per gallon in some parts of the country.

The current high prices are not new, either. Gasoline has been on the rise for seven straight weeks, according to GasBuddy data reported by Fox Carolina.

“Veteran energy strategist Dan Dicker said he can see gas prices going up to $5 a gallon. Dicker said some areas might even get to $6.50 or $7,” Fox Carolina added.

GasBuddy noted that the national average is almost twenty cents a gallon higher than a month ago and is nearly a dollar higher than one year ago.

In just over a year we went from being energy independent and a net exporter of oil to reverting to 70’s-era gas pricing.

Norms restored!

Just know that the Democrats and their accessories in the media will blame the war in Ukraine for the rising gas prices. But don’t let them.

Left-wing news sources continue to lay the blame for these skyrocketing prices at the door of Russia’s threatened invasion of Ukraine.

Indeed, the Associated Press is only worried over the high costs of gasoline because it will likely have a political impact for Biden and the Democrats in the 2022 elections, which are only seven months away.

“Americans are already dismayed by Inflation at a 40-year high, and Biden is warning that gas prices could get higher if Russian President Vladimir Putin chooses to invade. It’s a recognition of Biden’s own risks ahead of the 2022 midterm elections: Inflation has become an albatross for Democrats despite the nation’s strong economic growth last year,” the Associated Press wrote last week.

But this is misleading. Gasoline has been rising since Biden took office, and the Russian threat to Ukraine was not great enough to impact gas prices when Biden entered the White House in January of last year.

Brandon is a colossal failure, putting America and the rest of the world at risk. He failed in Afghanistan, he failed in our energy independence, he’s failed on our southern border, and he’s failed in uniting the country.

And now he’s failed to deter Putin from mischief in eastern Europe. Biden might think he went “toe to toe” with Putin, but it turns out he was only tripping over his own feet.

Have a good weekend.
