I’m going to keep this short and just touch on one thing. Chicago is blowing up with violence like many cities across the U.S. This past Sunday hundreds of … what to call them—criminals?—converged on Chicago’s business district where they proceeded to smash windows and loot stores, causing at least $60 million in damage.
Black Lives Matter Chicago held a rally in support of more than 100 people arrested during the rioting. Here’s what a BLM organizer, Ariel Atkins, had to say about the looting and damage the rioters caused.
“I don’t care if someone decides to loot a Gucci or a Macy’s or a Nike store, because that makes sure that person eats. That makes sure that person has clothes. That is reparations. Anything they wanted to take, they can take it because these businesses have insurance.”
I’ve got only one thing to say: that isn’t “reparations,” it’s theft. I don’t care how much of a victim you feel you are, I don’t care how wronged you feel you are and I don’t care how righteous you feel you are. Breaking into a store and stealing their merchandise is wrong. It is criminal. It is debased.
I guarantee you that none of the people looting and rioting Sunday night were without clothes or food. Don’t let the radicals get away with violating the meaning of words or redefining their behavior. Call it what it is, and refuse to do otherwise.
