Daily Broadside | Democrats Now 0-2 Impeaching Trump

Daily Verse | Numbers 7:89
When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the atonement cover on the ark of the Testimony. And he spoke with him.

Happy Monday, Broadsiders. I was told there would be hors d’oeuvres.

Over the weekend, former president Trump was acquitted for the second time in another impeachment charade. He’s now two-for-two against all comers, this time being found not guilty of inciting an insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6.

The Democrats are a pathetic group of rather stupid opportunists who have done nothing but further galvanize the 75 million Trump supporters. Do they really think that they’ve damaged Trump? Do they think they’ve changed anybody’s opinion about him that didn’t already hate him? The only opinions they might’ve changed were those who were wondering if the Democrats were really this vapid and suddenly see that yes, yes they are that vapid.

To prove that I’m an equal opportunity scold, let’s not forget the RINO Senators who voted with the Democrats to convict Trump.

  • Richard Burr of North Carolina
  • Bill Cassidy of Louisiana
  • Susan Collins of Maine
  • Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
  • Mitt Romney of Utah
  • Ben Sasse of Nebraska
  • Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania

But that’s not all. What’s going on with Cocaine Mitch? He savaged Donald Trump just “minutes after voting to acquit” him.

Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell said on Saturday that Donald Trump was “practically and morally responsible” for the insurrection at the US Capitol on 6 January – minutes after voting to acquit the former president in his impeachment trial for that very same act.

McConnell, like the senators who voted in favor of impeachment, was deeply critical of Trump’s conduct leading up to the attack. “They [the mob] did this because they’d been fed wild falsehoods by the most powerful man on Earth because he was angry he lost an election,” McConnell said.

Again, listen to the charge. “[The mob] did this because they’d been fed wild falsehoods.” He’s drawing a direct line between what Trump said and the actions at the Captiol. Was that conclusively proven in this trial? It absolutely was not.

As you consider the impeachment, there are several facts to keep in mind:

  • Trump was still speaking when the crowd breached the Capitol Building.
  • At least one anti-Trump activist was inciting the crowd. There seem to have been others who “dressed the part” but were not, in fact, Trump supporters.
  • Anyone participating in the rioting would have missed Trump’s speech.
  • The riot appears to have been pre-planned.
  • The U.S. Constitution requires the Chief Justice to preside over the trial. Chief Justice Roberts refused to participate in the sham, which would render it unconstitutional before even getting started.
  • The U.S. Constitution provides only for “When the President of the United States is tried” and judgment “shall not extend further than to removal from Office.” Trump was no longer President and therefore could not be removed from office, further rendering the shampeachment unconstitutional.

Trump responded to the failed impeachment effort with a statement that makes it clear he’s not going away.

Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun. In the months ahead I have much to share with you, and I look forward to continuing our incredible journey together to achieve American greatness for all of our people. There has never been anything like it!

We have so much work ahead of us, and soon we will emerge with a vision for a bright, radiant, and limitless American future.

Together there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

It may be that questioning the election results and holding the rally were tactically unwise, but Trump did not incite the crowd to storm the Capitol Building. He now has a fired-up base that, like it or not, is looking for Trump to provide leadership for the movement he started.
