Daily Broadside | It’s a revolution alright, but not an American one

What we’re witnessing is the rapid unspooling of law and order across our country. It started with “sanctuary cities” set apart to shelter illegal aliens from being arrested and deported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Mayors and governors instructed their police departments not to cooperate with ICE agents (Atlanta, Chicago, Portland, Lexington, Baltimore, New York, Los Angeles and many more.)

Democrats and their progressive allies vehemently opposed building a wall on our southern border, where illegal aliens by the tens of thousands simply walked across the border and disappeared into the interior. Or if they were caught, they were detained, given a court date, and then disappeared, never to be seen again and eventually forgotten.

At colleges across the fruited plain, mini-Marxists shouted down conservative speakers and forced them to abandon their presentations. Some speakers didn’t even make it to campus because the local police couldn’t guarantee their safety.

Then there was the astounding revelation that the national institutions we trust to keep us safe from all enemies, foreign and domestic, had been hijacked by partisan, unelected bureaucrats and used to actively undermine and possibly overthrow a duly elected president using lies, intimidation, and the full powers of the agencies they ran. They literally spied on American citizens who allegedly enjoy the protection of the Constitution.

Following that we’ve watched as state governors used the Chinese Bat Flu to justify their metamorphosis into tiny tyrants who ruled by diktat rather than law. The economy contracted as small businesses were forced to close, nearly 40 million people were thrown out of work, and even now, some governors are keeping their states locked down even after new cases have dropped off.

During the Chinese Lung Pox, governors and mayors released thousands of prisoners so that they wouldn’t catch the virus. Many were violent criminals who hadn’t completed their sentences and some committed crimes as soon as they were back in the community.

And now, following the death of George Lloyd—an obscene miscarriage of justice, to be sure—we’ve seen as close to a form of anarchy in multiple cities across the U.S. Looting, shootings, beatings, murders, arson, vandalism, and wanton destruction with calls to defund the police.

Making it worse, some members of law enforcement and the National Guard have knelt in deference to the mobs. These are the people we trust to enforce the law, not side with the lawless anarchists.

It’s a revolution alright, but not an American one. It’s more of a French Revolution when mob rule governed the citizenry.

I fear that we are on our way to Civil War 2.0. We are a severely divided people. Younger generations have been so steeped in cultural Marxism that I can’t see how they can be reconciled to the founding idea of America. They hate this country, accuse it of many things it is not and are ready to burn it all down based on their beliefs about it.

The only way I can see stopping it from escalating is with the threat of force; and when it finally does escalate and begin to seep out beyond the cities, to apply that force with shock and awe.

I hope it doesn’t come to that.
