Daily Verse | Leviticus 16:22
The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a remote place; and the man shall release it in the wilderness.
It’s Tuesday and I’m old enough to remember when Hershey’s chocolate syrup came only in metal cans, like chicken soup.
The latest outrage in our national “dialogue” is the second impeachment trial of now-private citizen Donald J. Trump that starts today. He faces a single charge of “Incitement of Insurrection” over the breach of the Capitol on January 6. The relevant text reads,
Shortly before the Joint Session commenced, President Trump, addressed a crowd at the Ellipse in Washington, DC. There, he reiterated false claims that “we won this election, and we won it by a landslide”. He also willfully made statements that, in context, encouraged — and foreseeably resulted in — lawless action at the Capitol, such as: “if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
Let’s pause here to point and laugh at the absurdly fatuous charges in this latest attempt to smear the former president.
The first baseless* charge is that Trump “reiterated false claims that ‘we won this election, and we won it by a landslide.'” This is itself a false claim for alleging that Trump’s claim that “we won this election … by a landslide” is false.
Is it? No one has proven that his claims are false because the evidence has not been heard and judged in a court of law. The answer to this charge is “prove it.” Prove that Trump’s claim is “false.”
Let’s get all the evidence in front of the Senate—see all the videos, hear all the sworn testimony, present all the data, explain all the probabilities, compile all the facts—and only then can they level that charge. The man is innocent until proven guilty and the burden of proof is on the accuser.
The second baseless charge is that Trump “willfully made statements that, in context, encouraged — and foreseeably resulted in — lawless action at the Capitol, such as: ‘if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore.'”
They don’t pay me enough to unwind idiotic statements like this. The charge is demonstrably non-factual. Let’s start with stripping the sentence down to its essential elements.
“[Trump] made statements that resulted in lawless action.”
Standing there in all its naked glory, the essence of the charge is of the “cause and effect” variety. Nancy’s mindless midgets in the House are claiming that a statement like, “if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore,” directly caused the breach at the Capitol.
Again, the only answer to this charge is “prove it.” But wait! They increased their burden of proof by adding language that makes proving their case even more difficult.
- “[Trump] willfully made statements…” The word “willfully” implies that Trump intentionally said what he did to provoke “lawless action.” This borders on reading Trump’s mind and I challenge anyone to prove that’s what he had in mind.
- “[Trump’s statements] encouraged … lawless action.” They may have “encouraged” his supporters to take action, but was it the “lawless” action we saw on January 6? Aren’t there other kinds of actions his supporters can take other than “lawless” ones?
- “[Trump’s statements] foreseeably resulted in … lawless action.” Wow. You’re telling us that the specific “lawless action” we saw on January 6 was easily predictable? Please tell us how you know that to be objectively true.
- Finally, they are claiming that the statement, “if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore,” could only have been interpreted to mean one thing: attack the Capitol building. That is, of course, nonsense. The phrase “fight like hell” could mean anything. Like, for example, “don’t give up or you’re not going to have a country anymore” or “you need to stand up for the truth no matter what or you’re not going to have a country anymore.” It could also mean, “attack the Capitol,” but to assert that his words meant “attack and take over the Capitol or you’re not going to have a country anymore” is only a Democrat’s or RINO’s wildest fantasy.
The House cannot prove any of what they charge Trump with. It’s a waste of time and taxpayer money in the service of a political assassination. Not to mention all the hateful rhetoric Democrat leaders have voiced “in context” that egged on the mayhem we suffered over the course of Trump’s tenure.
Democrats failed in the first impeachment and they will fail in this second attempt. They are a garbage party and this is just one more reason why.
* I use the word “baseless” in the same way the MSM did when it reported on allegations of election fraud—I simply assert it’s truth and report it as fact.
